some of them i’d never seen but i’m not posting those yet.

there are dozens of those dancing pics in her old albums but these for some reason were tucked in the envelope she gave me.

i love them. that kid was so so so earnest.

feels good to make something special for people and know that it will be something they can touch, look at over and over, enjoy, know that it’s not a bill or a coupon mailer……or use as a paper coaster or a bookmark.

whatever. it’s made me focus on beauty and care and people.

and there’s that little thrill of dropping it in the mail box and knowing it’ll cross town and deliver a moment of brightness to someone who is a friend.

well hell. i hope they do that. i’ll just assume that’s the case.

here are a few of the ones i remembered to take pictures of before i sent them off. a couple of them weren’t finished when i took the pic and then i didn’t take a pic of the finished version.

that’s because i got too excited and put them in envelopes, addressed them, stuck the stamp on and ……..no pic. duh.

oh and here’s a line drawing that i did so that richard chandler could paint it with water colors.

G and I are celebrating our bdays “officially” this Friday / Saturday which means eating what we want.

a little stressed about that b/c i JUST got back into my clothes from the holiday glutony but….gotta live it.

all the way. strange how turning 40 didn’t really feel any different but i definitely have allowed myself some permission to ease the fuck up now and again.

somehow i feel more alive that way.

i took this 4 minutes before i turned 40.

funny. i feel the same now as i did when i took the photo.

i just wanted to remember the last few minutes of my 30s and i thought this was probably the closest i could get to my true sentiment.

hopeful. a little snarky. knowing i’ve got big plans and just wishing for some cool ass breaks along the way.

the other one…catching all of the things i want to say to the face and/or to folks in person that i won’t ever say the way that i enter them today.

they may get stated at some point in the future but i will have to soften their tone and cut them into bite-sized, pre-digested pulp first.

i was so sick this week. a 24-hour bug hit me out of the blue and knocked me flat on my ass.

i got up and felt like a new human.

so many lefts/rights and u-turns this week too.

rearranged my life in my head about a million times.

why do i want to share with people?

i often wish i didn’t feel that need. and then i do something like this.

self-reveal 101. blogger.

harder and harder not to post as ME on the face.

i don’t like the coffee i made today. dammit.

i’m going to stop posting stuff as we and writing from the “we” p.o.v.

it doesn’t work.

there are lots of “me(s)” in the projects i write about and share about and i’ll let them speak for themselves if they want to.

their voices are amazing and should be heard.

feverhead newsletters will come from “ME” from now on….only a 48% open rate on the last one. FAIL.

only 33 subscribers….why is that?

i’m confused. as per usual. ROI on effort = *sigh*

i’m gonna drive very slowly through the snow and sit in the sauna and sweat out all of the stuff that doesn’t feel good.

i’m gonna emerge ready for tonight. ready to try again.

that sounds weird and strange and i can’t say i’m too concerned about it right now.

they might be dancers. they might be the best dance company in columbus. they might not be a company. they might be a completely beautiful group of people who work to support each others’ creative work and lives (same thing really). some things need relabeling/recategorization. or to be left alone. i have no opinion. except ……….that you should vote for the people who might be dancers and for the group that may or may not be a dance company because regardless of what we/it is called we/it does and makes really great art works.

i’m heading over in a bit to see what Keida and Michael have done with the projectors and music set up and i’m getting really excited. not that i wasn’t excited to begin with but you know how tizzified i get when stuff is about to happen!

tomorrow i’ll arrive in the late afternoon, turn on the heat, play some tunes on the BeoCrack system and start setting up the refreshment table and cleaning up the joint.

should get some new candles. feel free to bring an extra one if you have any around your house.

i really love preparing the tea, coffee, and snacky things for people who come to our events.

feels like i’m inviting them into a second home where i can share beautiful and rare things with them.

and we can enjoy all of the good things in life for a brief moment.

so yeah. i would love to have you at my second home for a bit during this event.

Please join us for this immersive art event in which projections of moving water bodies and soaring sounds transform an ordinary warehouse into a multi-sensory environmental experience. This is a 4-hour, 1-night only event. The installation runs for the entirety of the event. Drop in anytime between 7-11pm and stay as long as you like.

and it makes me happy to spend time with these little lines of text as they represent moments and times in my life that i have very little record of other than the memory and some physical residue that still resides in my dancing body.

“professionally” is in quotes b/c i was only 15 but i did start dancing w/ a local company in my home town when i was 17. so i think of my career starting then.

even though i started dance classes not long after i started walking.

so 40 is next week.

a look back at the wild and wonderful things that i’ve experienced and accomplished by dancing through my life.

i was 16 at ADF.

this solo by molissa fenley rocked my entire dancing brain/body.

i do remember it though. i remember her. i remember falling deeply and irreversibly in love with her and the dancing.

now i know it’s because i wanted to be her and the dancing.

i wanted to love myself as much as i loved her and the dancing.

i didn’t even know what “Le Sacre du Printemps” was and didn’t until years later.

i still move like this.

i still try to make this dance.

she terrified me. she thrilled me.

i’m going to remember this as i’m making this new dance.

it will come in handy.

i really enjoy the time i spend there getting this work done.

ben’s a riot of stories and skill. the past 2 sessions have been studded w/ the lovely presence of 2 of my best friends….hanging out, chatting, catching up while the image comes to life on my arm.

i actually got up from my desk more often and ran errands and tidied up the house b/c well…..i didn’t have to post all of those thoughts on the social network. i just did the thoughts.

made a score for a new dance called Put Yrslf Out Where I Knew A Woman.  i edited The Quiet North’s composition together with “I Knew A Woman” by Theodore Roethke.

put some more efforts toward Stupid Cupid.

hung out with friends and went dancing….wish i had photos of that!

so nothing really earth shattering. just felt like i had more of me to myself.

over the next few weeks i’m going to see if i can post even less about the space and events but Stupid Cupid may call for some savvy strategizing about that b/c it needs publicity.

some incredible things are planned for that event. can’t wait to see it all come to fruition.

borrowing components of mindi rhoades creative process to make my Stupid Cupid dance. Layering. Repurposing. Found objects. Obscuring. Revealing. Appropriating. Circles. Hearts. Stars. Piling up. Letting it sit for a while. Piling more. Copying. Finding just the right words and sticking them on and in and around.
